About

Popskull Studios is a project of husband and wife team, Ricky and Audrey Atkins, where we make art, write words, and cultivate creative expression in ourselves and others.

Ricky majored in art at the University of Montevallo. Inspired by a childhood love of late-night horror movies and comic books, his paintings and drawings are influenced by artists like Bernie Wrightson and Richard Corben and authors like Charles Bukowski and H.P. Lovecraft. A lifelong audiophile, music is a near constant presence.

Audrey studied English and art at Montevallo, where she and Ricky first met. She is a freelance writer, editor and writing coach as well as a visual artist. Her inspirations are David Sedaris, Walter Anderson, and Stephen King, with whom she shares a birthday. Audrey believes everyone has a story to tell and loves to help them free their inner writer. She has been published in The Washington Post, The Bitter Southerner‘s Folklore Project, Alabama Media Group’s “It’s a Southern Thing,” “This Is Alabama” and “Reckon,” and Mobile Bay Magazine.
